"Every man has two countries--

 his own, and France."

In  La Fille de Roland, written by Henri, Vicomte de Bornier in 1875,  Charlemagne utters these words (translated into English, above):  “Tout homme a deux pays, le sien et puis la France.”  This quote is often misattributed to Thomas Jefferson.

In 1821, in his Autobiography Jefferson did write these these words:   “So asked the travelled inhabitant of any nation, In what country on earth would you rather live?--  Certainly in my own, where are all my friends, my relations, and the earliest and sweetest affections and recollections of my life.  Which would be your second choice? France.”

Not surprisingly, France is the most popular holiday destination in the world.  To paraphrase Audrey Hepburn, "France is always a good idea."

This website is the landing spot for various posts on all things French, with a particular eye to the amazing Quercy region of southern France, and the territory surrounding Saint Cirq Lapopie, which happens to be the little village where we have our home.
